| Scope of the Project | : The specific objectives of this design project are:
1. For the FOBs: A. To design 5 FOBs at selected locations, using the socio-economic data from the recently completed socio-economic survey; B. To incorporate into the design, the factors of convenience, safety, security and ease of use which make the designs attractive for pedestrians to use, and particularly for women; C. To incorporate private sector participation in the construction, operation and maintenance of FOBs; D. Examine the viability of advertisements on the FOBs; E. To provide innovative designs, including the use of escalators, low-gradient ramps other innovations, particularly taking into consideration examples in other countries in South and SE Asia (India, HK, South Korea and Singapore).
2. For the NMV/MV Lane Separators: A. To design appropriate temporary and permanent lane separators for the selected 2 road corridors (Khilgaon Flyover to I3angla Bhavan and Bangla Motors to Kakrail); and B. To advise on how to use the temporary lane separators prior to implementing the permanent lane separators considering examples (i.e., more robust than cones but can be disassembled for relocation) from other countries (e.g., India and elsewhere).
3. For the proposed 1-way streets: A. To design an appropriate one way traffic system for Old Dhaka (defined to consist of 5 Thanas: Shyampur, Sutrapur, Kotwali, Lal Bagh and Hazaribad) and Moharnadpur areas to facilitate better traffic flow with higher traffic safety; and B. To advise, in detail, on what kind of traffic signs and markings should be installed and at which locations, following Bangladesh and international standards; along the proposed one-way street system.
4. For Sidewalks and Road Improvement Program: To Design approximately 90 Km of sidewalks in Mohamadpur, Khilgaon and Tejgaon areas, together with the necessary road improvements and surface drainage |
| Services Provided | : ? Assessed the data available from the recently completed socio-economic survey, and the on-going gender study, and incorporate it into the design; ? Determined key technical, environmental and social aspects in each location required for the design; ? Investigated and incorporated the extent of private sector participation in the construction, operation and maintenance of FOBs; ? Conducted a road condition survey of about 90 Ian roads to be designated by the DCC in Mohamadpur, Khilgaon and Tejgaon, including the condition of existing pavements, obstruction to sidewalks and roads, drainage and sidewalks; ? Defined the extent of improvements necessary (sidewalks, drainage, removing obstructions and rehabilitate pavements where necessary); ? Discussed with DCC and delineate the extent of improvements with regard to sidewalks, drainage and roads; ? Completed the design of sidewalks (including bid documents) in the designated areas (approximately 90 Km in length); |
